This Is Bigger Than SoapThe coast doesn't need saving.
The coast doesn't need saving.
It needs weeding.
Ice plant (Carpobrotus Edulis) was introduced to California decades ago to stabilize coastal soils — and it worked too well, spreading aggressively and outcompeting native dune plant communities up and down the coast. Rather than treat it only as a problem, we saw an opportunity: responsibly harvest it, and put the polyphenols, flavonoids, and naturally occurring antioxidants it stores in every bar we make.

Ingredients
Thoughtfully chosen. Naturally inspired.
Every ingredient should have a reason to exist. No fragrance oils, no filler — just what's needed, fully listed, nothing hidden.
Hero Ingredient
Ice Plant Extract (Carpobrotus edulis)
Responsibly harvested from invasive populations spreading across California's coastline — not cultivated. Naturally rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, antioxidants, phenolic compounds, and tannins.
Base Oil
Cold-Pressed Olive Oil
Slow-saponified from first cold-pressed fruit, never refined or deodorized, so its natural vitamin E and fatty acids stay intact. Prized in traditional Castile soapmaking for a dense, moisturizing bar with a stable, long-lasting lather.
Base Oil
Coconut Oil
Sourced from mature coconuts and cold-processed alongside the olive oil, it brings quick, gentle cleansing power and the bar's signature light, bubbly lather. Also helps the bar cure into a firmer, longer-lasting shape.
Process
Sodium Hydroxide
Also known as lye, it's the catalyst that triggers saponification — the chemical reaction turning oils and ice plant extract into soap. Fully consumed during curing, so none remains in the finished bar; only the fatty acid salts it created do.

About
Hi, I'm Adrian.
Ice Plant Soap Co. began as a university eco-entrepreneurship project, inspired by years of surfing, hiking, and exploring California's coastline. One question stayed with me: could an invasive plant become something people genuinely wanted to use? We're still at the beginning of our journey. Our mission hasn't changed: thoughtful products inspired by the coastline, and new ways to think about restoration, sustainability, and innovation. Read the full story →From the Journal
